  • It happened to my daughter the two times she weaned off steroids and was starting to have inflammation again. First her ear would turn bright red only at the top and after a few days it would start peeling.

  • Yes!!! It was just a phase of several episodes of this hot, bright red ear. It hasn't happened now in about 3 years. Our Doctor talked to us about Relapsing Polychondritis Thank goodness, it passes and no longer a issue.

  • My sons did that when he would get bitten by any type of bug, allergies.. They put him on zertec and it stopped

  • Happens to my son out of nowhere and no other symptoms. Never happened before he was diagnosed. The Dr. said it has something to do with adrenaline and its associated with the SJIA

  • My daughter's started doing it as well. She is on Kineret only.,

  • Kylie's does usually when she is flaring along with bright red and hot cheeks

  • He is tapering down on his dose of steroids. Thanks for sharing.

  • Relapsing Polychondritis is such a scary diagnosis (especially to be added to SJIA). An acquaintance was diagnosed 2 years ago, after having RA for years. Im glad they haven't had any more issues.

Ezra's is a phase too. Thinking back, Matt & I remember it happening a few years ago too, along with other symptoms and we believe that time also correlated with him being on steroids.

  • Its not a bug bite this time but we went through a period of time where Ezra reacted the same way with bug bites. They would get huge, inflammed, and a hard knot would form. It would stay there for months some times. Thankfully that hasn't been an issue this summer. I hope the Zyrtec continues working for your son.

  • Thanks. That was my thinking as well.

  • How often does it happen? Ezra's is sporadic.

  • oh my son is grown now..(25) he is deathly allergic to bee stings but outgrew all the rest pretty much. Thank you !! :) I hope you figure stuff out

  • Xxxxxxx Yzzzzzz same.

  • That's why I hate to complain, I know things can be so much worse. Thankful it hasn't developed into anymore for Hannah. Jakes got this weird thing going on with his feet. Feet get red and red about 3" above ankles, feels hot and is warm. It comes and goes quickly?? Such strange things always??

  • Xxxxxxx Yzzzzzz that is strange!

His rheum wrote back tonight & mentioned RP, but thankfully due to it being sporadic they are not considering it to be that. No real answers other than that it could be "disease related:

  • Xxxxxxx Yzzzzzz, I've learned in this journey, anything is possible and symptoms change. We get stronger each passing year and extremely thankful for good days. Hope nothing more develops for E.

  • My sons does the same. They get like bright red. He doesn't say they bother him, I think it bothers me more. Ours also happen without fever and are completely sporadic.

  • With all the similarities, I am glad I asked. Thanks for sharing your stories & information!

  • Xxxxxxx Yzzzzzz. I cant tag from my cell but hopefully you will see this

  • Thank you Leah Nicholson Bush. My daughter's ears did this for the first time last night. They were warm to the touch. Her cheeks were also a bit red and she was in pain. Our rheumatologist does not feel that this has anything to do with SJIA. We are not so sure. After reading these comments, there seems to be a connection.
