  • Mary-Jo Kolifrath Rivela did you any of the lesions vasculitis pictures? I imagine similar lesions just under skin in vessels or arteries

  • Are those the red spots on the skin?

  • The sores, I think the red spots they call something else...having a brain fart on word

  • This is under and on top of skin gca lesion

  • A lesion is an area of abnormal tissue change, an injury......can be really broad ...sores, tumours, cuts,.tissue damage,....

  • In the blood vessel they can see the giant cells. They might be located some distance from each other. They could take a sample that happens to miss a section of these cells.

  • Xxxxxxx Yzzzzzz! That's awful. I'm still trying to figure out what the medical description of a lesion is. Someone told me today that it's like a scrape on the inside of the artery but that didn't make much sense to me. I thought maybe it was like a blister or something similar.

  • So is a lesion and giant cells the same thing?

  • That's sort of like my friend was describing it. She even used the word "boo boo" lol

  • Mary-Jo Kolifrath Rivela so your rheumy just meant the surgeon missed getting an area of abnormal tissue because it's not continuous but skips areas....in this case the lesion is an area of abnormal cells (giant)

  • ..... in this reference yes...were you looking for a picture of the giant cells?...if you google that there are lots...

  • Xxxxxxx Yzzzzzz A picture would be helpful. I'll go look now. Just trying to stay educated. Thanks for all the help!!

  • "Histopathology Images of Giant Cell (Temporal) Arteritis"

  • Like a scar

  • Xxxxxxx Yzzzzzz TY!! Now I have a much bigger understanding of what is happening.

  • Go to the 4:17 time mark (I think) Mary-Jo Kolifrath Rivela

  • Awesome video, Darlene! Thanks for sharing. I just searched GCA on YouTube and there are a whole bunch of videos that came up. Never even thought to check there. Duh! Lol

  • Darlene MacKenzie I had forgotten about this video, and so I don't forget again, does anybody know if there is a way to save it to my computer?

  • Just by bookmarking the link I think. I don't know of any way to download it.

  • Darlene MacKenzie oh, right, ok, thanks

  • Xxxxxxx Yzzzzzz you have a YouTube account you can just save it there

  • Luckily, I managed to avoid/refuse a Temporal biopsy when I discovered how common is a false negative result. Seems to me they should come up with diagnostic test that has a higher accuracy rate.

  • If the surgeon is good he should get a reliable sample.

  • I was happy to get my positive diagnosis this way because other factors were not so clear.
